No ice at all. Small, hollow, or partially formed cubes. Cubes fused into a block. Ice that looks fine but tastes stale. Or ice forming where it shouldn't — behind or under the ice maker rather than in the bin.

Run these before booking anything.
Arm down, sensor unobstructed, nothing leaning against either. This alone explains a significant share of no-ice calls, and it isn't a fault at all.
If your cubes are small or hollow, or production has slowed, change it before anything else. It's the most common cause, and you can fit it yourself.

People look for one, don't find it, and call with a brand name and a guess at the age — which narrows the part list to dozens.
The number that matters is on the refrigerator's rating plate, inside the fridge compartment. With that, we're looking at one module and one valve.
It also settles availability up front. On an older refrigerator, whether the ice maker assembly still exists is frequently the whole answer — and it's far better established on the phone than after a diagnostic visit.

That's a refrigerator problem with food at risk, and the ice maker was just the first symptom to appear.
Cubes are small or production has slowed and a filter change hasn't fixed it, or the fill tube keeps icing up.
There's no ice, the freezer is holding temperature perfectly, the shut-off arm is down, and nothing is wet. That's an inconvenience rather than an emergency.
If the arm was up, the sensor was blocked, the supply valve was closed, or the filter was overdue and you've replaced it.

Ice makers need reasonable supply pressure to fill correctly, and low pressure produces exactly the small, hollow cube pattern.
Many RO units deliver water at a pressure too low for an ice maker to fill properly. If your fridge is fed from RO and your cubes are small, that's very likely the cause rather than a fault — some setups need a booster pump, and some manufacturers advise against feeding an ice maker from RO at all.
The small piercing valves sometimes used to tap a pipe for a fridge line — they clog, weep, and restrict flow. If yours is fed by one, it's worth replacing with a proper valve — and a weeping saddle valve is a leak in its own right.
Can kink behind the appliance after a fridge has been pulled out, or freeze in a cold location.
Usually a dripping inlet valve or fill tube — and inside a freezer, that water freezes and grows. Catch it early, because it eventually jams the mechanism.
